Narrative
TOPSFIELD, MA – A driver of a 2008 GMC Acadia SUV turned left and came to a quick stop on Route 95, resulting in two people getting sent to the hospital and two fatalities Saturday. This fatal wreck occurred around 4:30 p.m. The driver of the GMC was traveling on southbound Route 95 when the crash happened. Upon stopping, the GMC motorist was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. A third driver – who operated a 2006 Chevrolet Express Van – tried to move over into the left lane to avoid being hit but collided with the Chevrolet Impala. The Impala driver was unharmed. The Van passengers – two men – were thrown from the vehicle. A 30-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. One other person – 44-year-old Valkisergio Costa Silva of Centerville – succumbed to fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other van occupants were also hospitalized for minor and serious injuries. As for the GMC occupants – the driver and passenger – fled the scene. One of them was found, while the other one is still being sought. The one being searched was only described as a Hispanic man who was wearing a gray T-shirt. The one who was apprehended by police was 30-year-old David Guzman of Lynn. Police charged Guzman with “interfering with a police officer” and will have a scheduled court appearance.
