Narrative
NEWBURY, MA – A 49-year-old police officer died Wednesday when a wrong-way driver struck his vehicle along the interstate in Newbury.
The accident happened around midnight on I-95 near Exit 81. This is east of Byfield Community Arts Center.
Police say that a southbound white Tesla entered the northbound side of the interstate and collided head-on with victim’s Chevy Trailblazer.
The driver of the Chevy died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Sergeant Jeremy Cole of Exeter.
Medics airlifted the wrong-way driver to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Officials hope to announce charges soon.
