Narrative
MASHPEE, MA – A 17-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries Tuesday in a single-vehicle collision in west-central Barnstable County.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Carleton Drive just south of Swain Circle in Mashpee. This is north of Falmouth Drive and northeast of Mashpee Department of Public Works.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a teen driver lost control of a Rav 4 carrying seven teens total, left the roadway, and struck a tree.
Medics transported six of the teens to the hospital, where one later died.
It’s not yet clear if seatbelts were in use. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
